Dear Tom, Sheree, Scott, Shannon, and Shawn,\
\
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Colette was a truly remarkable person, always so kind and generous. She had a gentle and loving spirit and is a wonderful example of how to be a Christian woman, wife, and mother. I have so many wonderful memories of her and the time I spent at your home. I can still see her warm and encouraging smile in the stands at our basketball games. I think of her and all of you every Christmas as I make chocolate covered peanut butter balls for my family, and on St. Patrick's Day, when I make a traditional Irish dinner (although I have not colored everything green as Colette used to... but maybe I will next year). Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I pray that you will find comfort knowing that she is at peace and at home with our Lord.\

The Magnificat Alumnae Association sent me the notice of Colette's passing. I live in Hawaii on the North Shore of Oahu and although, I have been out of touch for many years, I have fond memories of high school days with Colette and our classmates.Colette was an incredible person, very bright, and a leader in our class. I am not sure if Tom remembers me, but please accept my sincerest condolances to you and your children, and other family members. I guess we will never know when God will call us home. May you have peace in knowing that she is in good hands.\

Dear MacFarland family,\
\
I heard of the death of your dear wife, mother, and grandmother. You have my most sincere sympathy. I remember your mother as a very positive, loving, supportive parent. She was always there to lend a hand and be encouraging to her "kids." I remember, as a very young teacher, being invited to your house at Christmas time. It brought back memories of my own childhood. You were all blessed to have her as a wife, mother, and grandmother. You are in my thoughts and prayers. We all look forward to the day when we will be united as one in Christ. \
\
Sincerely,\

We want to extend to the McFarland Family our deepest sympathy for your loss of Colette. I will always remember Colette from our high school days with her beautiful warm smile and her understanding heart. She would always tolerate us stupid football players and put up with our goofy ways of doing things as a group. I want to especially tell Tom how sad I am that Colette passed. We kept track of her valiant fight through our mutual friend, Mary Gilbride. I know Colette earned a special place next to Jesus.\

So many fun and loving memories of Colette! Where does one ever begin? She set the bar for how to be a wonderful human being: so kind, generous in love and spirit and food, patient, happy, and I could go on and on as anyone who ever met her could. I remember when Stacey and I were there on a Friday night with Shannon, probably waiting to go to a game. Colette had spent the day in Saginaw and was bringing home dinner from McDonalds--back in the day before Vassar had one. Well, Stacey and I got hamburgers for dinner while the rest of the family received fish sandwiches (observing Catholic tradition). Shannon had a lot to say about the injustice of it all, while her mother stood firm. I would have happily given Shannon my sandwich, but in that moment I knew better. \
I learned a lot of things from Colette: how to keep faith and respect tradition (no matter what), that there is always enough love to give and time to help (term papers at the final hour), share what you have, have fun....lots and lots of fun, and laugh, laugh, laugh! My life has only been blessed by knowing her and her family.\
My love to you all as you grieve her return home,\
Autumn

You never went hungry, as Colette always made sure you had what you needed!! (I specificaly remember the chocolate covered peanut butter balls, man those were awesome!!) I also remember seeing both Colette, Tom, and their children at Sunday morning masses, and all of them were always so polite and courteous!! I remember all of the fun times my sisters and I had at the McFarland house. It was always a treat to be able to go there a spend the day. Mrs. McFarland had her dolls that she had saved from when she was a girl and I loved when she got those out for Shannon and I to play with. I never heard her yell or complain about all the messes we made or the trouble we caused playing "don't fall in the water" as we jumped from rug to rug all the way down the hall. Even the time I smashed the kitty-cat snowmobile into the tree because I was watching my mom pull in the driveway and I wasn't ready to go home. Mrs. McFarland told me I could come back the next week and play again. Every year we remember the enormous Christmas Trees that managed their way into the house. Yesterday, we were making peanut butter balls with the whole gang and one of my kids asked, "How long have we been making peanut butter balls?" I told them, "As long as Mrs. McFarland has lived in Vassar!" We have adopted her tradition and made 21 batches for friends and family. \
Mrs. McFarland was a terrific person. She was always posititve and a supportive friend as my mom went through her battle with cancer. I admire her values, her courage, and her love of life. She will be missed by everyone that new her or benefited from her kind spirit.\

Tom and family, Although I haven't seen Colette in many years, I fondly remember all the wonderfully fun times we spent at her home in Clifton Park. The door was always open and Colette always had a smile welcoming everyone, whether it was the summer she had her cast on or close to the last day of high school with everyone frantically trying to finish a term paper due the next day. I am so sorry for your loss. please accept my deepest condolences.
