Obituary of Mark S. Currie

Of Clio, age 65, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 am , Friday, September 20, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Thursday evening, family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm, followed by a Knights of Columbus Service and Chalice Ceremony conducted by the K of C Holy Family Council #4285 and the Leon J. Satkowiak 4th Degree Assembly #0524. On Friday, Mark will be at the church from 9:30 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans or Memorial Masses. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Mark was born March 3, 1948, in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Helene (Barbat) Currie. He and Janet Yoder were united in marriage February 12, 1991. Mark worked at Buick for 28 years, retiring in 1995 and was a member of the UAW #599. Mark was a long time, active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Mark proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam from July of 1968 to July of 1969. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. He joined the Knights of Columbus #4285 in 1993 and became a 4th Degree member in 1994. In 1996 he attained the rank of District Marshal. Mark served as Financial Secretary at his council from 1998 to 2012. Left to cherish his memory are wife of 22 years, Janet; two sons, Brian Polcik and Stephen and wife, Brooke Polcik; four grandchildren, Gwenyth, Grace, Megan and Andrew; brothers-in-law, Don Ernst, Roger Yoder and John Yoder; sisters-in-law, Mariane Currie and Jeanne Trudeau; and many nieces; nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Ernst; and brother, Richard Currie.
