Obituary of Jerry Myers
Age 81, of Mt. Morris, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023. In accordance with Jerry's wishes cremation will take place. Jerry's family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 9:30 am until 12:00 noon; with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, at 1:00 pm. Jerry was born in Flint, on August 3, 1942, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie and Mildred (Bancroft) Myers. After graduating high school, Jerry would continue his education at Mott Community College, with an interest in math. Heeding his call of duty, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Jerry Myers enlisted in the United States Navy on November 29, 1960. Petty Officer 3rd Class Myers was stationed on the USS Mount McKinley as a Decoder with top-secret clearance during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He earned his honorable discharge on August 31, 1964; upon returning to civilian life, Petty Officer 3rd Class Myers joined the United States Army National Guard until receiving his honorable discharge on August 20, 1977. He met and married the love of his life, Jacqueline Dow on December 22, 1982, in Mt. Morris. Together their union would be blessed with five children. Jerry was a Fork Truck Operator for the GM Parts Plant in Swartz Creek until retirement in 1998. In his free time, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends and traveling across the United States. Jerry also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, and playing horseshoes, and started his own tournament, The Six-Pack Open; he was also known for telling the best jokes. Jerry was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4090 in Montrose.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Jackie; three children: Mark Allen Myers, Stephanie Rae Riley, Brandy Lynn (Neal) Johnson; step-son, Dennis LeRoy (Shelli) Lugg, Jr.; six grandchildren: Gina (Jeff) Comstock, Spencer Myers, Mason Lugg, Patrick, and Abigail Johnson, and Christian Riley; and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Harold, Margaret, Verl, Vernita, and his stepson, Daniel.
