Joan “Joani” was born in Flint, on July 27, 1940, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard and Lucille (Condon) Woodby. Educated locally, Joani graduated from Kearsley High School with the Class of 1958. Joani met the love of her life, Douglas Pope, while they were working at the box factory, and the two were united in marriage on May 26, 1968. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church for the last 15 years. Music was one of Joani’s favorite pastimes. She sang in the church choir and was a member of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, as well as learning to play the dulcimer. She was blessed to have gotten the chance to take a trip to Hawaii with the orchestra. She loved rocks and picked them up on every vacation. Joani enjoyed going on vacation and would pick up rocks from every shore. Not only did she pick them up, but she also remembered where she had gotten each rock. Joani had a love for sloths, snowmen, and flowers of any kind, but especially lilies and lilacs. She had a special gift for crocheting afghans and knitting, as well as a love for reading. Her animals and her family were her whole world. Joani was a wonderful, beautiful, kind woman, and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Joani’s memory is her loving husband of 53 years, Douglas Pope; sister, Wendy Schooley (Tom Mosher); brothers: Morley (Beth) Bradford, Larry Woodby, Rex (Penny) Woodby; nephews: Rick (Samantha) Horton, Jerry (Amanda) Horton; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; best friend of 63 years, Joan Corwin.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Thomas Bradford.
