Hugh was born in Flint, Michigan, on October 9, 1946, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold N. and Opal E. (King) Johnson Sr. He served in the United States Air Force from May 24, 1966, to October 20, 1969, during the Vietnam war. After his honorable discharge and return to civilian life, Hugh attended the University of Hawaii and upon his return to Michigan worked at the family-owned business until his retirement in 2019. Hugh loved to travel and visited several foreign countries in his lifetime and took many road trips throughout the United States. He loved family gatherings and fun times with friends. He loved the outdoors and would occasionally get up early in the morning to see the sunrise or sit on a beach somewhere, as he loved to camp, and watch the sunset. Hugh loved animals, having a favorite cat that was a constant companion. He was especially close to his sister-in-law, Dr. Susan Paolilli, and her husband, Dominic Paolilli.
Hugh's loving sister-in-law said; "Happy spring my brother and friend, you will always be our amazing, funny, and loving man. We will miss our times together but we will cherish the memories of our fun times filled with laughter and surprises. We will never forget all the meaningful acts of kindness, notes of encouragement, gifts, and visits that were part of your code of conduct and 4-star lasting memories."
Hugh leaves to cherish his memory; brother: Howard Johnson; and sister-in-law: Dr. Susan and her husband, Dominic Paolilli.
