Kathryn was born in Danbury, Connecticut on November 10, 1951, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Helen Marie (Favreau) Franco. She was educated in Connecticut, graduating with the Danbury High School Class of 1969. Kathryn met Charles Townsend through mutual friends, the two dated and fell in love. Kathryn and Charles were united in marriage on January 22, 1972. Working at the local Fairway Discount Store, Kathryn enjoyed the small-town life, meeting many acquaintances. She enjoyed camping and traveling, especially taking trips to Tennesee to visit her sister, which always created good memories. Even in her camper, she kept the place spotless and clean. Kathryn enjoyed reading a good book, sitting on the beach, and painting her nails. Kathryn enjoyed spending time with her family and would make her famous broccoli casserole for any family gathering. Her Italian ways often took people by surprise, as she was honest and truthful even if it could hurt someone's feelings. Kathryn was known to need her morning coffee before her day started, which meant morning coffee before anything or anyone. Kathryn had a huge heart and love for everyone.
Left to cherish Kathryn's memory are her children: Derrick and wife, Holly Townsend, Jered and wife, Rachel Townsend, granddaughter: Madeline Townsend, grandson: Lucas Townsend, siblings: Helen Marie Coons, William "Billy" and wife, Bonnie Franco, Jr., mother-in-law: Marilyn Townsend, several nieces, nephews, and close friends, her beloved cat, Lola and beloved dog, Sissy.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Charles, and brother-in-law: Grant Coons.
