Obituary of Steven Leslie Schulz
Age 68, of Burton, died at home on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, with his family by his side. In accordance with Steven’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 4:00 pm, Monday, June 22, 2020, at Encounter Church, 6150 Lapeer Rd. Burton, MI, 48509. Pastor Chris Forystek to officiate. Steven was born in Flint on July 6, 1951. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver “Dutch” and Joan (Collins) Schulz. Educated locally, Steven graduated from Swartz Creek High School with the Class of 1969. Heeding the call to serve his country, Steven enlisted in the United States Army from 1971 until 1973. Upon his return from the military, he again heeded the call to serve and protect others as a police officer with the Mt. Morris City Police Department as a Patrol Sergeant, from 1973 until his retirement in 2011. Steven met and married the love of his life, Lori Kurtz, on October 20, 1984. Steven was a pillar in the community, with his dedication to others and his love for all children and people. Passionate about the DARE program, Steven worked as the Mt. Morris School Liaison Officer for seven years, teaching the program to the students. Steven had a love for his family that surpassed all others. A member of Encounter Church, Steven volunteered with the Pioneer Club, teaching Sunday School and working in the nursery. In his free time, he could be found reading, camping, wood-working, helping others, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Steven leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lori; children: Tiffany Schulz, Patrick Schulz, Jimmie (Bryan) O’Connor, Andrea (Tim) Brydges; 11 grandchildren: Cassandra, Clayton, Nicholas, Andrew, Angela, Grace, Noah, Alivia, Danielle, Timothy, and Emmy; siblings; Sandra Wood, Cathy (Tim) Anderson, Daniel (Paula) Schulz, Donald Schulz; special friends; Scott and Toni Kinney; many nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Michael Schulz; sister-in-law; Laura Schulz.
