Ken Appletree I have known Marty since elementary school and began playing golf with him in Junior High. We crammed our clubs in a small locker at J C Martin Municipal Golf Course (the former nine hole par 32 Glenwood GC.) It was only a few short blocks from Memorial Jr. High and a quick 9 after school. His dry sense of humor was a Brown family trait. Our paths did not cross very often in recent years; but at Class reunions it was like old times with my friend voted most humorous in the 1961 Academe Year Book. To Kay, the Brown family, and all of Marty's friends; may his memory be a blessing and help you keep a soft smile on your face.

I met Marty 9 years ago when he came to my shop for a haircut. He was bigger then life when he walked in and made me and my staff laugh everyday he came aftet that. He talked about his family so much I felt I knew all of you and He always asked about my family and he truley cared. I am going to miss him every month. A huge hole will be left here. Golf on Mr. Brown!!!!!!

A good and loyal friend who we worked with, had many laughs with together, and enjoyed the game of golf. I can still see him in the golf cart following the action last summer at Country Club of Detroit rooting on his player Drew Koble. His wit, humor and relaxed style will be missed. I know he wanted to play golf more recently but coaching golf at Rochester Adams was important and special to him. He "drummed to his own beat."

We all have people in our lives, that, no matter how you feel, or what you are going through at that point in time...when you see them, you smile! Marty was definitely that type of individual to me. I always found Marty to be a great ambassador for golf and an extremely positive influence on young, competitive golfers. He personified the mantra, you always play better with a smile on your face! I will definitely miss seeing him on the course!
