Remembrance
Judith Gerard Langridge
For me, Judith will always be remembered with baseball and music. She took me to my first baseball game. We sat above the home plate, on the third base side. Kirby Puckett was a guest on the farm team, Portland Beavers. Sitting behind me and to my left was a gentleman who used a wheelchair. As I watched my first game I asked the now infamous question, ‘Why is that man not running?’ And the answer— ‘He’s the third base coach.’ I know we all chuckled at that. And it was in that game that there was a foul ball that came our way. Instinct made me shoot my left hand out and catch the ball that was headed for the wheelchair user. With a surprised look I showed the ball to Judith, who was sitting next to me. She said she’d never caught a foul ball in all her years of going to games. I gave it to her and it became part of the story of that day for us.
For these last few weeks Judith and I sent text messages and many were about music—what she was listening to that day. Here’s one of her lists: Hugh Masekela, Rascals it's a beautiful morning, Fleetwood Mac, Penguin, Kiln House, Mystery to Me...and song Last Train Home by Pat Metheny (makes me cry), and Songs in the Key of Life (Stevie Wonder), Oscar Peterson Blues jam in C, Emerson Lake & Parker Fanfare for the common man, Fleetwood Mac: Bare Trees, Instant Karma by John Lennon, Deacon Blues by Steely Dan, Wandering Rose by Pucho & his Latin Soul Brothers, Samba Pa Ti by Carlos Santana, All Day Music, Groovin by War.....I'll stop now, the list goes on & on....
Each day since she passed, I’ve been feeling the music I listen to with my heart. And remembering Judith and her passion for all kinds of music. Hallelujah my friend, hallelujah. Love you always.
