Obituary of Doug Doavon Best

Of Genesee, age 58, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at BrianAaas House in Davison. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Mt. Morris Community Church. Pastor Eldon Busenitz will officiate with a luncheon to follow at church. Burial will be held at 2:30pm in Great Lakes National Cemetery. DougAaas family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris on Sunday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Monday from 2:00pm until 8:00pm. On Tuesday, Doug will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring, may direct memorial contribtuions to a scholarship fund at Genesee High School which will be set up in DougAaas memory.
Doug was born September 13, 1950 in Freeport, Illinois the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donavon and Violet (Leuenberger) Best. He and Linda Hampton were united in marriage August 12, 1972. Doug graduated with a BachelorAaas in Business from U of M Flint and later attended Ferris State University and Saginaw Valley State University, eventually earning his MasterAaas in education. Doug was a dedicated and devoted teacher, track coach and assistant cross country coach at Genesee High School, where he taught Special Education, as well as business and history classes.
Doug leaves to cherish his memory his wife; Linda; children, Derek Best and Justin Best; sisters, Michele Best and Jan and husband Jeff Marrah; niece, Audrey; nephews, Donavon, Nicholas, Joshua and Matthew. Doug is also survived by the many students and co-workers whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
