Aunt Maunee was a living example of the excerpt from Vedran VukAaas Serenity Prayer, AaA"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.AaA As she was raising four young children by herself, she never complained. She accepted the challenge and succeeded in raising the children into four fine adults of which she was very proud. Even though she lost the youngest of her children in the prime of his life, she didnAaat pull into a shell and give up on living. \ Her strong perseverance was evident to the very end in her refusal to accept offers to live in the homes of her children. \ \ One year Aunt Maunee took some shoots from the magna hydrangeas on the side of my house to transplant around her house. These flowers are like Aunt Maunee. I never water them. I cut them back. I never pull weeds from around them. However, each year they come back - - - hardier and more beautiful than ever. Each summer as they bloom I will think of Aunt Maunee her love for the flowers and the strong independence she exemplified in her life in spite of many hardships.\
