Everyone thought that John and I were cousins because we both called Uncle Ray, 'Uncle Ray'. So we played along with it for years - although I'm sure most people knew that we weren't related! I would have been just as proud though. John was the type of person that if you were at a gathering of any kind, you'd hope he would be there too. He was the best "Celebrities" player and always would ask me for a quarter for the jukebox to play Magic Carpet Ride - he must have just loved that song! Since I have lived in Florida I have not seen or heard from John too much but always tried to keep up to date through Uncle Ray. I am deeply saddened that I will not be able to see him the next time I visit Michigan - I truly miss him and am so sorry for your family's loss. Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, Richie, Uncle Ray (and everyone else in the family) - I have a very heavy heart today even as I smile back at the memories of John. Please know that I am thinking of you all and wish so much I could be there with you.

We had the privilege of getting to know John and his family throughout the last couple of years with football, baseball and cheerleading. As a coach, John was always extremely supportive and encouraging to our son, and he always had something funny to say. He will be missed. Julia, Logan and Emma, our thoughts and prayers are with you. \

Mr. and Mrs. Daniels:\
I can't express how sorry I am for the loss of John. John was a special friend to me for a long time as we first met playing ball against each other at a young age, as you know. Growing up knowing John as a great friend was special and I'll always remember how great he made me feel. I was happy to see you and your entire family however my thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you. You have a special family and the Powers family is an amazing thing to be a part of. John will be deeply missed but he will live in our heart forever.\
All my best.\

I was so shocked and saddened to see Johnnie's obituary in the paper. I was in the hospital myself, or I would have come for the service. I always admired his sport abilities as I had none myself. I remember playing Bonnie and Clyde, with John, in the back yard after dark. We had such good times as kids. I haven't seen the family in years, but my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Please let me know if I can do anything, even if it is only to listen.\

I feel so fortunate to have known John during both his formative years and as a young adult. As his Jr High principal I watched him mature from his adolescent stage to that of becoming a young man. As his high school athletic director I also observed John develop into one of the finest all around athletes in Powers Catholic High School history. I will always remember John's smile and the respect shown to all, which is a direct reflection on the training he received from his mom and dad. The Daniels family will be in my thoughts and prayers everyday of my life. John, I will always remember you, speak highly of you, respect you and cherish the memories you have left in my heart and mind.\

We are saddened and shocked to hear of the untimely passing of John. Bucky was a great person and athlete. He certainly added a great deal to the success of the Powers Chargers athletic teams (especially for our football seasons). The comments that have been already written are so true. His smile and attitude were contagious.\
Our deepest sympathy to you. Know that our thoughts and prayers will be with you. We are sorry that we cannot attend the tribute to John in person, we left just this morning for a trip south.\
As I was writing this, Jim Samec called from Florida asking if I heard about John. Jayne and Jim send you their sympathy as well.\

I remember when in 4th grade, we had our height chart, I was the tallest, but you had won the race we had to run against each other, only by one second though. I remember dodge ball in the gym, where you and Darrin Briggs would hunt down the girls, because you could throw the ball the quickest. Remember when you wore your white pants and on lunch hour you played baseball, you slid into home plate and got your pants all muddy, boy Sister Thomas Mary was really mad at you. I also remember when Mr. and Mrs. Baker took all 15 of us up north for the weekend. You guys had locked Darrin outside and he was kicking the door in. You also pushed me into the water, to get me to go with Brian Miller. The liking of each other lasted a weekend. I remember in Freshmen year at gym class I had blocked your shot at basketball. Or the fun times we had in math class. It was great to know you 36 yrs. of my life, I will deeply miss you so very much.\
My condolences go out to Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, Rich and Sue. I know John will be deeply missed by everyone.\
