Obituary of Douglas "Doug" Dean Gilmer

Age 56, Clio, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at his home. In accordance with Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial in his honor will take place at a future date. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Genesee County Humane Society. Doug was born June 21, 1959 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary and Janet (Murray) Gilmer. After graduating from Clio High School in 1977 Doug went on to become an electrician which led him to work for General Motors over 30 years. Doug (known as Hugo to his siblings and close friends) was passionate about hunting and was a collector of antique fishing lures. He will be mostly remembered for his willingness to always provide a helping hand to those who needed it. He enjoyed reading books and gardening and grilling but most of all he loved animals especially his dog Fannie. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Gary and Janet Gilmer; brothers Gregory Gilmer, Scott and wife Caroline (Otero) Gilmer; nephews Evan and Bryan; nieces, Kathryn, Sarah, and Julianne; uncle, several aunts, cousins and good friend Ken Isola.
