Obituary of Patricia "Pat" Schaffer

Of Flushing, age 81, died Thursday, July 23, 2015. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00am on Monday, July 27, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Morris, Father Gordon Reigle officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, on Sunday, July 26 from 12:00pm to 8:30pm. Family and friends will gather to pray the Rosary at 7:00pm. Patricia was born April 21, 1934 to the late Robert and Mabel (Murphy) Flynn in Flint, Michigan, the oldest of their 9 children. She married Donald J. Schaffer Sr. on August 2, 1952 at St. Mary’s. Together they had 6 children, Donald Jr. (Suzanne), Sally (Rick) Jamison, John (Julie), Mary Reese, Dennis (Sharon) and Tresa (Scot) Reneaud. She had 13 Grandchildren, Meredith, Amy, Kelly, Joseph, Katelyn, Lexi, Jack, Meagan, (late) Michael, Olivia, Joshua, Jacqueline, Madeline. She had 4 great grandchildren, Madison, Malynn, Addison and Julianna. Patricia (Pat) led a very full, active and spiritual life and was extremely proud of her “Irish” heritage. She and Don, along with her brothers and sisters enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ireland to visit their homeland. Pat was also a member of the St. Roberts (Flushing) Altar Society, Council of Catholic Women and was a member and past president of the Flushing VFW Post 5666 Auxiliary. She is survived by her brothers, Leo (Ann), Jerry (Wanda), Michael, and Sisters, Margaret Belanger, Donna Alward and Rita (Carl) Uherek. She also is survived by sisters-in-law, Mildred Schaffer, Doris Fish, Shirley Livingston and Mary Rutter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Donald, Grandson Michael, and Brothers – Robert and Dennis.
