Obituary of Edwin Lee Butler

Of Flint, age 105, went to be with Jesus on Friday, April 20, 2012. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. With burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The Butler family will be present at the funeral home on Monday to receive friends from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the family fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Edwin was born October 8, 1906, in Webster County, West Virginia the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Francis and Alice (Ford) Butler. He and Gertrude were united in marriage December 22, 1944, in Dillon, South Carolina. Edwin worked as a W.Virginia coal miner for nearly 20 years, finishing carpenter retiring from General Motors in 1970. He was a member of UAW Local #599. Edwin served in the United States Army during WWII before receiving his honorable discharge. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading his Bible, wood working, singing, playing guitar, gardening and canning, playing with his animals and traveling. Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, Gertrude "Trudy"; five children: Alice and husband, Richard Schroeder, Frank Butler, Palma "Polly" and husband, Larry Clear, Edwin "Buc" Butler and good friend, Cathy Jones, Kim and husband, Philip Hart; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and friends; four cats: Cassie, Beckley, Jack, Lily and dog, Sophie. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings; granddaughter, Angie and great-granddaughter, Emily; dear friend and bluegrass band member, Robert Fanchier, Sr.
