Obituary of Larry L. Briggs

Of Vassar, age 71, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with graveside military honors conducted by American Legion Post #164 of Millington. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Sunday, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Sunday night, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home for a Parish Vigil Service at 6:00 pm. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Chesaning. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Larry was born August 31, 1940, in Vassar, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark and Emily (Hewlett) Briggs. He and Lucille M. Sholes were united in marriage May 4, 1968. Larry worked at Fisher Plant in Flint for a short time and then was transfered to Steering Gear in Saginaw; he worked for GM for over 25 years, retiring in 1997. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, responding to the Detroit Riots in 1968. He enjoyed pheasent hunting, fishing, and making memories with his grandkids. Larry will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Larry leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 43 years, Lucille; son, Larry, Jr. and wife, Teena Briggs; daughter, Susan and husband, Martin Malek; four grandchildren, Brooke, Jordyn and Lawrence Briggs and Jacob Malek; step-grandchildren, Sydney and Tyler Malek; mother, Emily Briggs; four sisters, Pat, Betty, Nancy, and Mary; four brothers, Doug, Greg, Tom, and Tim; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Karen and Eileen Sue; and baby brother, Randy.
