Obituary of Daniel McCombs

Of Mt. Morris, age 67, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00am, Monday October 12, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate. Family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Sunday from 11:30am to 3:00pm and again from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. On Sunday afternoon, family will gather at the funeral home for a Scripture Service at 2:00pm. On Monday morning, Mr. McCombs will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to the Education Fund for DanAaas Grandchildren. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Daniel was born January 8, 1942 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Kathleen (Bonner) McCombs. He and Peggy Ann Buchko were married July 27, 1963. Dan and Peggy were the owners and operators of Skateland Arena in Mt. Morris, for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris for over 45 years. Dan leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 46 years, Peggy; his children, Debora and Daniel VanHamlin; Dianne and Bill McChesney; Danny and Mandy McCombs; Dawn McCombs and Renie Fitch. His grandchildren: Jonathon and Jennifer VanHamlin; David McChesney, Nick Dean, Tyler Kline; Jaycob and Hannah McCombs, Jacqueline and J.J. Goodman; and Nick Kelley. His mother: Kathleen McCombs. His sisters: Joan and Allen Carmean; and Colleen and Herb Johnson. Father and Mother-in-law: Joseph and Madolyn Buchko. Brothers-in-law: Ron and Diane Buchko; Dale and Penny Buchko. Other relatives, and many friends, especially his long time buddies, Bill Jordan and Joe Jackson. He was preceded in death by his father Willard McCombs, and sister, Beverly McCombs Martin.
