I was sorry to learn of Dan's death. My mother, who still lives in Swartz Creek, sent me the article from the paper. Though it has been a long time, I remember Dan so well. He was one of my brother's best friends and thus spent a lot of time at our house. I recall many occasions when Dan, my brother Jerry and I would be sitting around the dining room table telling jokes. Dan was always laughing. When the skating rink was being built, my brother drew cartoon characters which were painted on the walls. I'm sure they are no longer there, but I have the sketches still. I know the heartache the family is experiencing as my brother died at age 24, and my husband at age 61. I wish your family peace which will come in time. Vel (Keene) Chesser

I literally grew up at Skateland. I was a competitive skater and was a member of the Skateland Club back when the sport was popular and there was a lot of talent in the sport. I practiced at Skateland 2-3 hours each day, 7 days a week. In my spare time, I went to all open sessions as well. I loved every minute I spent at Skateland.\ \ Dan was alway positive, friendly and had a smile that could light up any room. When Dan would walk into the rink, I used to think that he could walk approx. 100 mph, with his quickness and long strides.\ \ My thoughts and prayers go out to the McCombs family and friends.\ \ \

To the McCombs family:\ \ My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. I spent my teenage years at Skateland every weekend. Dan and Peggy are thoughtful and wonderful people. Skateland was practically the only place we had to go to enjoy ourselves growing up. Diane my thoughts are with you - I lost my dad 2 1/2 years ago and I know what your feeling right now. I spent my pre-teen and teenage years skating at Skateland...every weekend..sometimes both Friday and Saturday nights.. Mr. McCombs and his family were always so very nice. My condolences to the McCombs family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
