It was too soon, Grandpa, but it would have always been too soon. \
\
I believe my grandpa was the wisest man I've ever known. I will strive never to forget the knowledge he has imparted on me. He was more than my grandfather; he was my mentor and good friend. He understood life only as some of the most enlightened souls that I've read in our literature. \
\
What does it mean to be a man? You don't need words to explain it. Just look at my grandpa and you will know. \
\
Of the countless memories that I can recount, some stand out more than others: playing catch with him for hours in his backyard; watching as he patiently and meticulously fixed my car (How impatient I was, though! His poise is something I have tried to emulate over the years); sitting next to the lake discussing life and its possible meanings. There are so many others, and I would love to share them all...\
\
But, "there's not a joy the world can give like that it takes away", as Lord Byron wrote. These words mean nothing until they are enforced with the substance of experience- until the fantasy of daily distractions is dissolved by the rude awakening of life's inevitable certainties. Death is our collective awakening. It brings out the realization of the true worth of life. In his passing Grandpa brought me one more piece of wisdom, and it is this. \
\
You're alive as long as we keep you alive, not only in our hearts, but in our active will to share your story with those who are worthy enough to hear it. I promise to do my part. \
\
I love you, Grandpa.

We will miss Louie very much. He was loved, and he was always a pleasure to sit down and chat with. I especially enjoyed listening to his stories from when he was in the military. -Todd

Rose and Family,\
\
I can't tell you how much I will miss Louie. I will forever have a spot in my heart for our relationship. His intellect and demeanor was a challenged me to become a better person. In Louie's terms, " I don't profess to be an expert ", but he always seemed to know how and when to steer someone to be better at whatever they would do. He certainly steered me on more then one occasion and for that I will be forever greatful.\
He could not have been more proud of you, Ray, and his family and it always warmed him whenever you were part of our conversations. I will be saddened not to experience those Musky Lake conversations any longer but am glad to have the memories of the many we shared.\
\
May Louie Rest in Peace knowing how much you all cared for him.\
\
Our deepest sympathy,\
