To the dear family of Lucille Allen,\

Your mother was a special lady in many respects to more people than you can ever know. As a child, every Sunday as we approached the corner near her store, my sisters & I would try to guess what color of dresses would be the featured ones, while we were on our way to Mass at St. Mary's just down the street on Saginaw St. It was fun to see how they were showcased. As an artist, I've always loved colors, & I dreamed of someday being able to set designs in windows like that. \

Then in later years, as a volunteer at Crossroads Village, I had the opportunity to see her on different occasions & even worked one weekend with her in the Law Office there. We had such a good time, as she regaled people with her wit & style, but especially her attitude of life. Mrs. Allen was a joy to be around, & many of us will long remember her. We send you our sincere condolences, but know that in her long life, she gave many people lots of good times. I know of brides who had gone there for dresses, & always said how nice it was to do business there. Even though the store has been gone for some time, I still "see" it in my mind, of a time when I used to dream that I could go in there, & come out dressed in some of the finery that was in the windows. Those types of shops are mostly all gone now.\

We were lucky to have had her for so long. She was a small town treasure, both in Mt. Morris & at Crossroads. \
I live in Burton now, & I have made dresses that could have been in that window, so I'd like to think that she has influenced many a seamstress in their future projects. \
