What Hope for Dead Loved Ones?\
\
aIf a man die, shall he live again?a asked the man Job long ago. (Job 14:14, King James Version) Perhaps you, too, have wondered about this. How would you feel if you knew that a reunion with your loved ones was possible right here on earth under the best of conditions?\
\
Well, the Bible makes the promise: aYour dead ones will live. . . . They will rise up.a And the Bible also says: aThe righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.aa"Isaiah 26:19; Psalm 37:29.\
\
To have real confidence in such promises, we need to answer some basic questions: Why do people die? Where are the dead? And how can we be sure they can live again?\
\
Death, and What Happens When We Die\
\
The Bible makes it clear that God did not originally intend for humans to die. He created the first human pair Adam and Eve, placed them in an earthly paradise called Eden, and instructed them to have children and extend their Paradise home earth wide. They would die only if they disobeyed his instructions.a"Genesis 1:28; 2:15-17.\
\
Lacking appreciation for Godas kindness, Adam and Eve did disobey and were made to pay the prescribed penalty. aYou [will] return to the ground,a God told Adam, afor out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.a (Genesis 3:19) Before his creation Adam did not exist; he was dust. And for his disobedience, or sin, Adam was sentenced to return to dust, to a state of nonexistence.\
\
Death is thus an absence of life. The Bible draws the contrast: aThe wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life.a (Romans 6:23) Showing that death is a state of total unconsciousness, the Bible says: aFor the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.a (Ecclesiastes 9:5) When a person dies, the Bible explains: aHis spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.aa"Psalm 146:3, 4.\
\
However, since only Adam and Eve disobeyed that command in Eden, why do we all die? It is because all of us were born after Adamas disobedience, and so we all inherited sin and death from him. As the Bible explains: aThrough one man [Adam] sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men.aa"Romans 5:12; Job 14:4.\
\
Yet someone may ask: aDonat humans have an immortal soul that survives death?a Many have taught this, even saying that death is a doorway to another life. But that idea does not come from the Bible. Rather, Godas Word teaches that you are a soul, that your soul is really you, with all your physical and mental qualities. (Genesis 2:7; Jeremiah 2:34; Proverbs 2:10) Also, the Bible says: aThe soul that is sinninga"it itself will die.a (Ezekiel 18:4) Nowhere does the Bible teach that man has an immortal soul that survives the death of the body.\
\
How Humans Can Live Again\
\
After sin and death entered the world, God revealed that it was his purpose that the dead be restored to life by means of a resurrection. Thus the Bible explains: aAbraham . . . reckoned that God was able to raise [his son Isaac] up even from the dead.a (Hebrews 11:17-19) Abrahamas confidence was not misplaced, for the Bible says of the Almighty: aHe is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him.aa"Luke 20:37, 38.\
\
Yes, Almighty God has not only the power but also the desire to resurrect persons whom he chooses. Jesus Christ himself said: aDo not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.aa"John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15.\
\
Not long after saying this, Jesus met a funeral procession coming out of the Israelite city of Nain. The dead young man was the only child of a widow. On seeing her extreme grief, Jesus was moved with pity. So, addressing the corpse, he commanded: aYoung

I know in talking with mom (Sandy) over the last year she had always gave us updates on how Aunt Betty was doing. My daughter Emma and I, in our prayer time before bed, would pray for Aunt Betty every night faithfully. At my Dad's viewing, funeral and reception, Emma was able to meet, talk to and enjoy Aunt Betty's smile, laugh and praises on how cute she was. She was also able to enjoy a hug from one who loved to get and give great hugs.\
\
As a young boy, mom said Aunt Betty babysat us but I don't remember that much at all. What I do remember is picnics at Grandpa Neahusans house with all the aunts and uncles, great food, volleyball, softball, etc. What I remember most about Aunt Betty was her laugh. I could tell which aunt was where by their laughter. Aunt Betty had a beautiful smile and a distinct laugh. She also loved to hug. \
As a boy I would try to run away from the aunts and Grandma Neahusan when they were out for a hug but when I was in Michigan labor day this year. I made sure I got as many as I could get.\
We saw Aunt Betty labor day at mom's house for a picnic out back and she was in great spirits, enjoying family, the kids and it was a great memory to hold on to. Emma is using the journal Aunt Betty gave her at the picnic as her diary.\
I know Aunt Betty is with her dad and mom, her brothers, her nephew and many others in the most glorious place you can imagine and better. Looking forward to spending time with them again in a place where there will be no more death, sorrow, crying or pain!!! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!!\
We are praying and thinking of you all during this time. Hope to see all of you soon. Love you!!!

Dear Sherry and Family,\
\
What a void there will be without our strong woman around with her beautiful smile and warm hugs. She truly has been a women of strength through these past years and going through her physical adversities. She has been strength to me.\
\
I praise the Lord for all the memories that have been gathered around her and the family. The picnics, family gatherings, applesauce cake (Jim' delight), Christmas \
celebrations, Fuller Brush, and taking her kids to youth events.\
\
She will be deeply missed. I am so thankful that the Lord can fill that void in our lives when we lose a loved one. He is there surrounding us in our grief and can give us joy, peace, love, faith, and His wisdom as we lean on Him and trust in Jesus Christ, the Savior.\
\
God has orchestrated for me to stay with the family here in Maryland and we together will pray for you as you since her absence and seek His face for comfort. We will miss very much not being there but we are with you through our prayers. Love Sandy Neahusan and Family

Dear Sherrie and Family,\
We are saddened to hear of Aunt Betty's passing, but know that she is celebrating in heaven today! She always had a smile, warm hug, and lots of kisses to share every time we were together. So many memories flood my mind, but the brightest are the family gatherings at grandpa's house where you could hear her laughter above everything else that was going on. She will be missed down here, but the angels are sharing in her laughter now. \
We love you all. You are in our constant prayers and thoughts.\

Sherry and family, We are saddened to hear of Aunt Betty's passing. I always enjoyed Aunt Betty's beautiful smile, warm hugs and laughter. I can remember those big Neahusan family reunions we used to have where we all were playing ball and eating delicious food. Dad and the rest of us loved her applesauce cake and we looked for it at every family event. We know her suffering is over and the real family reunion is definitely ON in heaven as so many of our loved ones have gone on before us. They are cheering us on now to persevere and fix our eyes on Jesus. We love you all and apologize for our absence during this difficult time. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.\
Sincerely,\
Tamara and family\
