Downie, John R. \ Age 79 of Mt. Morris died Tuesday February 13, 2007 at his home. Funeral Service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday February 16, 2007 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Pastor Erv Saultman will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post. #158 The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10-2 and 4-9p.m. and on Fri. from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00p.m. Memorial Contributions may be directed to a family fund. John was born January 18, 1928 in Spruce, Michigan the son of William and Mandy (Rasmussen) Downie. He married Clara Sobczak March 2, 1949. She preceded him in death November 1, 1990. He then married Barbara Lee Demory. She preceded him in death April 22, 2006. John was a member of Mt. Morris Chapel, retired from AC after 30 years of service and also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Surviving are: 7 children Richard and Shirley Downie ,John D. Downie, Robert and Brenda Downie, Gerald and Sherri Downie, Linda and Tom Hinkley, Joanne and Milton Keene, Stephania and Doug Cousins, 13 grandchildren ,15 great grandchildren, 3 step-children Guy and Wanda Demory, Joe Demory, Kathy Roberts, 2 sisters and 1 brother Gladys and George Lundemo, Lorraine and Matt Palmu, Bill and Delores Downie . Also his best friend, his dog "Snickersa, his special friend Erv Saultman, and his guardian angels Ella and Eva. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. \ \ \
