Of Mt. Morris, age 63, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. Funeral service will take place 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Garyas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00am to 8:00pm and on Wednesday from 10:00am until the time of service at 2:00 PM. On Tuesday evening, family and friends will gather at the funeral home for an Eagles Memorial Service at 7:00pm conducted by the Auto City Eagles Aerie #3485. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Gary was born May 2, 1943 in Flint, the son of L. Eugene and Freda D. (Weinzierl) Van Alst. He graduated from St. Maryas School in Mt. Morris in 1961. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966 on board the USS Enterprise. Gary was employed with C & O Railroad as an engineer for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0064 and the Auto City Eagles Aerie #3485. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, cars and car shows. Left to cherish his memory are his son: Neil and wife Mary,\
daughter: Aleece, grandchildren: Rachel, Ian, Tony, Madison and Olivia, brother: Dennis and wife Becky, sister-in-law: Mary Ann Van Alst, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger D. Van Alst.\
