Obituary of Robert Wilson Helmer

Age 76, of Durand, formerly of Clio, died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Monday from 11:00am to 8:00pm and Tuesday from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. On Monday afternoon, family and friends will gather at the funeral home for an Eagles Memorial Service at 5:00pm conducted by the Clio Eagles Aerie #3609. At 7:00pm, Monday evening, a Masonic Memorial Service will take place conducted under the auspices of the Birch Run Masonic Blue Lodge F. & A.M. #514. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Shiawassee County Counsel of Aging or Memorial Healthcare Hospice of Owosso. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.\

Robert was born April 26, 1931 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell and Vera Helmer. He and Louise Hawkins were united in marriage February 27, 1954. Robert retired from General Motors, Buick Division, carshipping, in 1984, after 36 years of service. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War. He belonged to many affiliations including: the VFW of Birch Run, Clio Eagles Aerie #3609, Birch Run Masonic Blue Lodge F. & A. M. #514, the UAW, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Moose Lodge, and the Elf Khurafeh Shrine. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping his friends and loved ones with any handywork at Leisure Lake Village where he and Louise resided. \

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Louise Helmer of Durand; four sons: Robert Wilson Helmer, Jr., Bruce Duane Helmer, Mark Steven and Maureen Helmer, and Matthew Scott and Faith Ann Helmer; seven grandchildren: Robert III, Brian, Brandon, Brandi, Brittany, Tasha, and Heather Helmer; and three great-grandchildren: Robbie, Alyssa and Cora Helmer, brother, Russell, Jr. and Beverly Helmer, sister-in-law, Betty Helmer, and many nieces, nephews and friends.\

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Vera Helmer, his son, Terry David Helmer, and his brother, Frederick Helmer.\
