Obituary of Conrad Alexander Schaffer

Formerly of Gaylord, age 89, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Sanctuary At Abbey. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, September 30, 2013, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate. Family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Henry Ford Hospice. Envelopes are available at the church. Conrad was born February 4, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad and Frances (Wittbrodt) Schaffer, Senior. He and Mildred Boyd were united in marriage February 12, 1944 at St. Mary's Church. He worked in the banking industry for forty years, eventually retiring from First National Bank of Gaylord as the President in 1990. He and his family were active members in St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. He held memberships with the VFW, Kiwanis, Rotary, and Knights of Columbus in various cities. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, gaming, listening to music especially Polka and putzing around the yard. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 69 years; five daughters, Ann Marie Poniatowski, Susan Schaffer, Carol Schaffer, Cheryl and husband, Tim Gaffney, and Marcia and husband, Don Lester; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris, Shirley, and Mary; and many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald, William, Thomas, and James; and son-in-law, Donald Poniatowski.
