Obituary of Dorell Coates

Age 58, of Flushing, died May 28, 2024, at Majestic Skilled Nursing. A graveside service will take place at 11:00am, Thursday, June 6, 2024. Pastor Roger Hazen to officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Dorell’s tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.

Dorell was born November 13, 1965, the foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond and Anna Mae Swarts, who loved her as their own. Dorell always had a smile on her face and loved all people. She was a member of the Mt. Morris Mennonite Church as well as Grace Community Church. Dorell came to live in the home of Raymond and Anna Mae Swartz when she was 6 years old. She came as a foster child as her birth family was unable to care for her. She became a playmate to Lori, another foster child living in the Swartz home. Dorell continued to thrive and grow and was an interesting addition to the already large Swartz family of nine children. Dorell lived with Raymond and Anna Mae until she was in her 40's, but eventually, she and her sister Lori were placed in a local AFC home called Kindred Spirit due to the advanced years of Raymond and Anna Mae and their ability to care for her. Dorell enjoyed living at Kindred Spirit and continued to have visits from the Swartz family and friends. Raymond and Anna Mae's faith in Jesus was imparted to Dorell on a daily basis and Kindred Spirit continued to pass on the torch of the Christian faith to her. All in all, Dorell's life was one of blessing and she was indeed a blessing to others. In her free time, Dorrell enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, completing puzzles, playing games on her cell phone, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
