Ruth was born in Flint, on October 10, 1931, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Mae (Wilke) Marshall. Educated locally, she graduated from Mt. Morris High School. After graduation, Ruth went on to obtain her master’s degree in teaching from Eastern Michigan University. While obtaining her degree, Ruth worked as a fifth-grade teacher for over 30 years. Teaching children was her passion, and she loved all children as her own. On June 28, 1952, Ruth married the love of her life, Robert Ackerman, at the Mt. Morris Methodist Church. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 3, 2022. Ruth was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over 45 years. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed spending time outside watching the birds as well as tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Ruth could often be found watching the Detroit Tigers baseball and University of Michigan football teams. She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin on Higgins Lake. Ruth was a wonderful baker and was well known for her cookies and desserts. Spending time with her family was her favorite pastime. She was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Ruth's memory are her son, Paul Ackerman and girlfriend, DiAnn Kokko; grandchildren: Shannon, Ross, and Todd; great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and James; nephews: Don and wife, Karen, Jeff; special cousin, Jean Lavigne; many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; daughter, Barbara Hall; her parents; and her sister.
