Donald was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 17, 1937, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Anna (Street) Polkinhorn. Educated in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Abington High School with the Class of 1955. On September 21, 1960, Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served as an airplane mechanic during the Cuban Missile Crisis, until his honorable discharge on September 18, 1964. Upon his return to the States, Donald met and married the love of his life, Margaret Pfenninger, and they were united in marriage on May 22, 1965. Donald worked as a pressman in a print shop for over 40 years until his retirement. Donald loved to fish and was an avid fly fisherman. Standing on the shore, fishing with his grandchildren, was his whole world. It didn’t matter whether it was in Oscoda or in the pond in his backyard. He also enjoyed putting together puzzles with his grandchildren, the bigger, the better. Donald grew and maintained a wonderful vegetable garden his entire life. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the Clio Senior Center or watching the Detroit Tigers play baseball. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Donald's memory is his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret; children: Robert Polkinhorn, Michele and husband, Eric Kubiel, Susan and husband, Michael McKervey; grandchildren: Isaac, Zachary, Spencer, Joshua; siblings: Tommy and wife, Ola Polkinhorn, Lorraine Momorella; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Edward Polkinhorn Jr., Dorothy Riley, James Polkinhorn, and Robert Polkinhorn.
