Age 80, of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, December 30, 2023, at McLaren Flint, with his family by his side. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell to officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Fred’s tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.
Fred was born in York, South Carolina, on October 7, 1943, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Ruby (Dover) Hooper. Educated locally, Fred graduated from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1960. Fred would meet a beautiful young woman named, Karen Jackson. The two began to date, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 24, 1966. Sadly, she preceded him in death on December 4, 2010. Fred's career would lead him to General Motors Truck and Bus. He was employed as a lineman until his retirement in 1991. Hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in Roscommon, were his favorite pastimes. He was well known for his cookouts, grilling the best chicken. Fred also enjoyed gardening. He was well known for his tomatoes. No one could grow a tomato like Freddy. His grandchildren were the loves of his life, doting on them, they took over his heart. He was a wonderful man and was loved by all. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to George Jones and drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon. He will be greatly missed.
Fred’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Aunt Ann and Sylvia for always being there and ensuring Fred was well fed; to Craig for making breakfast for him every day, and to The Pulmonary Associates and the doctors for their understanding and compassion during these last few years.
Left to cherish Fred's memory are his children: Dawn Marie Hooper, Renee Hooper and significant other, Craig Rupp, and William Hooper; grandchildren: Madison, Phillip, Naythan;
sister, Virginia Ann Garza; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, his parents, and brother-in-law, Ray Garza.
