Ralph “Moe” was born in Flint, on December 10, 1923, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Etta (Cummings) McCool. On March 23, 1943, Moe heeded his call of duty enlisting in the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a tank mechanic until his honorable discharge on November 24, 1945. Upon his return to the States, Moe started his career at General Motors working in skilled trades for Packard-Buick City, for 55 years, until his retirement in 1997. Moe took great care of his mother even as a young man, when he worked on the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) camps, which allowed single men between the ages of 18 and 25 to enlist in work programs to improve America’s public lands, forests, and parks, during the Great Depression. He enjoyed woodworking and built his own homes up north on Skidway Lake, then Horseshoe Lake, and then in Oscoda. Moe enjoyed traveling and remembered very fondly the trip he took with his mother to Hawaii. He was an excellent cook and he loved to make sauerkraut and wine. Farming was one of Moe’s favorite pastimes. He enjoyed canning tomatoes and plowing his garden. Moe was the kindest man you would ever meet, and he loved children dearly. He truly was one of a kind. He could often be found sitting with the family watching old movies on his projector or playing cards like Euchre and Pinochle. In his free time, Moe enjoyed drinking coffee, golfing, and watching TV. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Moe's memory are nieces: Karen Morrow, Susie, and husband, Brian; nephews: Dennis, Poncho, Robert "Robby" Brewer II & Amanda Blakely, David Brewer, several other relatives, and friends.
