Jack was born in Flint on July 22, 1929, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Nora (Pincombe) Elford. Educated locally, Jack attended Genesee High School until the 10th grade and then graduated from Kearsley High School with the Class of 1947. Jack met the love of his life, Patricia Huff, at the local roller rink, and it was love at first sight. The two were united in marriage on August 6, 1949. Jack worked as an Inventory Control Manager for Ideation, Inc. until his retirement. He also was a beloved member of the livery team at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services for 14 years until his actual retirement. Jack was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris for many years. He had the very best sense of humor and was always good at making everyone laugh, either while telling a joke or by one of his many amazing stories. Treating his neighbors like they were his family was one of his greatest qualities. He loved people and being around them. Jack was a die-hard University of Michigan football fan. Rarely did you see him not sporting something maize and blue, whether it was a hat, shirt, or both. Jack enjoyed playing golf and played on the Pattern Makers League for Buick for many years. Jack enjoyed dancing with his beautiful bride to country music. Camping was another of his favorite pastimes and he enjoyed spending summers at Holloway for over 60 years. Sitting at home with his family, playing cards such as Double Pinochle, Euchre, and Charlie were some of his fondest memories. During the COVID shutdown, he enjoyed going to Cummings Park where he could watch the horses ride along the trails. He always brought snacks for the horses, and they would walk right up to his car and stick their heads in the window. Going to Saganing Casino and watching movies were just some of the other hobbies Jack enjoyed. Let’s not forget his love for ice cream, Butterfinger candy bars, and cookies. Jack was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family very much! He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Jack's memory is his beloved wife of 74 years, Pat Elford; children: David and wife, Brenda Elford, Jill Switzer, Scott Elford, Steve and wife, Nenette Elford; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; special neighbors: Mo, Bud, and Jim; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
