Judith “Judy” was born in Flint on June 11, 1942, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Lois (Alexander) Helzer. Educated locally, Judy attended Beecher High School graduating with the Class of 1960. She met and married the love of her life and her best friend, Tyrone Sheick. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 27, 1999. Judy worked as the Executive Assistant to the President of the Mott Children's Health Center until her retirement. Judy’s husband Tyrone "Ty" was her entire world. She loved him dearly. They bought property in Newberry in the Upper Peninsula and built their dream home. Judy loved to spend every summer at her home in Newberry. Family was important to Judy. She loved them very much and enjoyed spending time with her sister, nieces, and great-niece. Baking, traveling, knitting, and crocheting, were just a few of Judy's past times. No one in the family was ever in need of a washcloth because Judy crocheted and gave them to everyone. Judy was known for her dump cakes and cookies she purchased from Schwann’s. A few of Judy's favorite traveling spots were Grand Marais and Tahquamenon Falls. Camp 33 served Judy's favorite blueberry beer. Judy also enjoyed listening to music, especially Tom Dooley by the Kingston Trio. Everyone who knew Judy knew this song from the time they could sing until they were adults. Judy loved cats and always had one for a pet. Typically cold, Judy would spend most of her summer sitting in the sun until she finally moved to Florida with her sister where it was nearly always warm. Judy was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Judy's memory are her nieces: Ashley and husband, Matt Klank and Carley DeBeck; sister-in-law, Linda Helzer; great-niece, Lena Ciaramitaro; her cat, Missy; several cousins, relatives, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ty; her parents; brother, James Helzer; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Kermit DeBeck.
