Phyllis was born in Liberty Center, Indiana, on December 14, 1932, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ranson and Thelma (Daughtery) Slusher. Phyllis met her beloved husband, Max Krouse, at church, and the two of them were united in marriage on June 10, 1950, at the Pine River Church in Blanchard, MI. She and Max were best friends and inseparable. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children. Phyllis worked as a homeroom mother for Klein Street School until her retirement in 1979. As a child, Phyllis lived on a farm, and along with helping with the farm chores, she also cooked and helped care for her ten siblings. Phyllis loved to go camping and had a membership at Outdoor Adventure for many years. She also enjoyed camping in Florida, where she would spend her winters. When she wasn't camping, Phyllis loved to play the slots, and she did so wherever she could; whether that was in an airport or at a casino, it did not matter to her. Phyllis also enjoyed playing Bingo, and she played two nights a week. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to family gatherings where she could play Euchre, Canasta, Rummy, or her all-time favorite, 500. Phyllis loved everyone and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
