Obituary of Robert Sidney Gary, Jr.
Age 69, of Flint, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023, at his home. Robert's family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2023, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, with burial immediately following at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Robert was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on December 27, 1953, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Melber (Johnson) Gary, Sr. He attended Lanier High School in Mississippi and graduated with the Class of 1972. In 1973, Robert proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge. Upon his return to the states, Robert would meet and marry the love of his life Carol, on December 15, 1986. Robert worked as a Maintenance Technician for Community Mental Health until his retirement in 2012. Robert was a jack of all trades and could fix anything that was set in front of him. Robert loved to fish in any pond or lake he could find. From catfish to bluegill to bass, he loved them all. Robert was known for his love of yard work as well as watching westerns and the news. He was the family comedian and loved to joke with family and friends. Robert loved his family and would spend his days talking to every family member he could, and he always had time for them. He also enjoyed telling the stories of his life to his family. Listening to music was one of his favorite pastimes, especially the '40s to the '70s, R&B, Soul, and Jazz. He enjoyed watching and playing basketball and football. He was a collector of many things and was an amazing numbers guy. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Robert's memory are his children: Octavia Gary, Robin Ross-Gary, Rowland and wife, Sha'Lisa Gary, Randall and wife, Rachel Gary, Jasmine Gary; 9 grandchildren: 1 great-granddaughter; sister, Fannie Watkins; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother; wife, Carol; sister, Kathy Gary.
