My heart is heavy just now finding out Mr Baldwin has passed. He was my teacher and coach at Romulus High School. I'll always have a fond memory of a fishing trip we took. Sounds like he was very active. I must not do well at Google searches - I've tried to connect with him for years. My life is better since he was a part of it. He will always hold a place in my heart. I’m so blessed to have gotten to know Tom and Carol. Tom and I spent a lot of time watching football. He was a sweet guy. He will be missed

As a somewhat rebellious student at Algonac High I regularly found myself squaring off against the administration at the school over a whole litany of offenses that I considered unreasonable. Even though I was doing great academically, things got to the breaking point during my junior year and I was staring down the barrel of expulsion.
Mr. Baldwin had a position that he had to maintain in the face of accusations against me, but he gave me the benefit of the doubt. When things were most in peril he managed to compromise in a situation that could have easily justified bullying me to a long list of demands. But he didn't. Instead he shared the intimate details of his past experiences with a student he knew in Oscoda who later moved to Colorado and came to be known as one of the perpetrators of the Columbine shootings.
After that things were pretty smooth for the rest of my tenure and he retired the year that I graduated. I never forgot his grace during that tumultuous episode, and the way that he was able to express his concerns without ever having to raise his voice. He wasn't mad, he was just concerned and it was clear that he cared about me.
When it was all over I had a better sense of my own personal responsibility but my dignity and sense of purpose were left intact. Mr. Baldwin illustrated clearly how to make sense to me at a time when I was ready to fight the whole world how to choose my battles and how to find unlikely allies amongst those who I thought were my foes. Though I haven't seen him in as many years as have passed since we both left Algonac High, I still haven't forgotten his kindness in those moments when I needed it most.

I was so saddened to learn of Tom's passing. He was one of the best educators I ever had the pleasure of working with. When he came to Oscoda as high school principal, he introduced programs and changes that resulted in an educational environment that was progressive and on course to prepare young students for a successful future. He was a strong leader, fair and caring.
It came as no surprise to me how involved he became after his retirement as I read through the list of activities he embraced. I never knew him to be a guy who stood by and watched, life was not a spectator sport for Tom.
My deepest condolences to Carol, Amy and Jeremy. What a tremendous loss. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

We met Tom & Carol in 2002 at Boyne Highlands when they were working at the ski valet and we were spending weekends skiing. We quickly became friends. Over the years we have had many good times with them. There were meetings for dinner. Trips around and on the lakes, Mackinac Island & Pictured Rocks to name a couple. Color tours and apple festivals in the fall. Time spent with the horses, dogs and cats. They even made it to Ohio to visit us. Recently it has only been phone calls but we have always been in touch.
Tom was a strong, quiet, steady and knowledgeable man until illness robbed him. Even so, he never lost his good nature. We’ll miss him.

What a beautiful video tribute to Tom! He loved his horses, sports, music, cooking and especially his wife, Carol. We still owe them a lovely whitefish dinner. In our next life, Tom! Jim and Sue

Tom was the best brother a girl could ever ask for! He was a great role model growing up. He excelled in all sports in high school. We had some great times growing up as kids. After we were both married and started our families we had many wonderful times together at Fife Lake in the summer! The cousins loved being together! My brother loved his kids Amy and Jeremy dearly and was a great dad. RIP my dear brother. We will meet again someday! I love you!❤️ Your sister Linda

Thanks for being the best brother anyone could ever hope for, no matter what you had going on you always had time for your kid brother. Everything I do in life has had some influence from you and your great mentoring even if you didn't realize it. Death certainly has its sting but I'll always hold on to the great memories we made over the years in the great outdoors and in life. RIP big guy and I'll see you again before you know it.
Love
Your little brother

Please accept my condolences for your loss of Tom. I will miss his quiet sense of humor, good nature, and lifelong friendship. We played three sports together during my junior year of high school. Being Big Nine baseball co-champs with him was the highlight of my high school sports activities. I still remember him hitting the ton out of a ball at Owosso. I also remember beating him on a drive during basketball practice, only to foolishly try it again and get stuffed. Coach Destacio got a chuckle out of both plays.I got a lifelong memory.
Tom convinced me to do my only backpack adventure joining him and Carol on Isle Royal in the early nineties. It was memorable for two long boat rides on Lake Superior, seeing a moose, and hearing the wolves howling at night. It was also hot, mosquito infested, and painful, but I cherish the lifelong memories created him and Carol. I will miss him greatly.
