Lisbeth “Betsy” was born in Lapeer on May 31, 1948, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen and Alice (DeView) Smith. Educated locally, she attended Lapeer High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. Betsy met her amazing husband while water skiing and the two were united in marriage on December 16, 1972. Their union would be blessed with two wonderful sons. Betsy worked in the healthcare industry as a surgical technician at St. Joseph Hospital and then Genesys Hospital for 40 years until her retirement in 2008. She was wonderful at her job, and all the doctors wanted her in their operating room due to her work ethic and the fact that she knew what she was doing. Betsy had a love for dolphins. One of her favorite memories was when she was able to swim with the dolphins. The smile on her face said it all. Going on cruises was her favorite pastime, and she has been on over 30 since she retired. She absolutely loved the water and was a very good swimmer, showing off her Olympic-style swimming whenever she could. Betsy also enjoyed reading murder/mystery novels. Betsy was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved all children. Her family was her first love. She was very humble, kind, and loving, and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Betsy’s memory are her loving husband for 49 years, Louis Poulin; sons: Louis II (Shanna) Poulin, Robert (Sarah) Poulin; granddaughters: Marie Poulin and Cheryl Krantz; siblings: Marsha (Dindigalla) Ramana, Denise (Eugene) Peruski, Stephen (Jennifer) Smith; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Laura Smith, and Regina Rawling; brother, Robert Smith.
