Obituary of Sharon Lee Cummings
Age 73, of Flint, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at home with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Sharon’s family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. On Wednesday evening, at 7:00 pm, family, friends, and parish will gather to pray the Rosary. On Thursday morning, Sharon will be taken to church to lie in state from 12:00 noon until the time of mass at 1:00 pm. Sharon was born in Flint on October 4, 1948, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Benton and Margaret (Stevens) Scherrer. Educated locally, she attended Flint Southwestern High School, graduating with the Class of 1965. Sharon met and married the love of her life, Robert Cummings, on April 19, 1976, in Las Vegas, NV. Sharon worked as a Checking and Receiving Clerk for AC Spark Plug until her retirement in 2002. Sharon was very active and loved all sports. Her love for sports began when she was in high school and was the drum major for the band. Since then, she has enjoyed bowling and was on several leagues, golfing at Vienna Greens, where she was the women’s champion several times. Sharon loved all sports, but she was most fond of the Detroit Red Wings and the University of Michigan sports teams. Sharon is well known for her talent for crocheting. She could make anything from doilies to tablecloths and blankets. She was also an amazing cook. After her retirement, Sharon and her beloved husband bought a condo on Daytona Beach in Florida, and they spent many winters there. Sharon had a special love for dogs and cats and had many springer and cocker spaniels throughout her life. Sharon loved her family fiercely. Her family was her pride and joy, She was wonderful to all of her nieces and nephews as well as all of her extended family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her loving husband of 47 years, Robert Cummings; children: Lt. Cl. Samuel and wife, Stephanie Ancira, Anthony Ancira, Daniel Ancira, Matthew and wife, Soni Cummings; grandchildren: Samuel, Sophia, Masen, Brayden, Bryson, Brennan, Nicholas; brother-in-law, David and wife, Eva Cummings; special friends: Michelle Ancira and Joyce Winchester; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ron; mother-in-law, Virginia Cummings; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Sandra O'Brien, and sister-in-law, Ginger Cummings.
