Dennis was born in Grand Rapids, on July 10, 1941, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn and Alice (Brown) Buchanan. Dennis enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Vietnam Era until his honorable discharge on August 3, 1962. When Dennis returned to the States, he went to work for General Motors as a Tool Maker until his retirement in 1999. Dennis loved to race cars and would often race his AMC Hornet named the “Green Hornet” at Martin Racetrack and also in Lapeer. When he wasn’t racing, he was working on his cars, making them better and keeping them well maintained. He was very proud of the fact that he kept a very clean garage and home. Dennis was a handyman and loved to work on home improvement projects. He loved to stay busy and bowled on a league at Richfield Lanes as well as enjoyed golfing at Beechwood Greens with his buddies. Dennis enjoyed crossword puzzles and you were not allowed to throw away the paper until he had completed the crossword puzzle out of it. Dennis also enjoyed spending time by the water, with his beloved Hermie, in Port Huron or Benton Harbor, watching the sailboats and sailing with friends. He also enjoyed spending time in Holland, especially during the tulip festival. Dennis loved his family most of all and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Dennis’ memory is his loving partner of 19 years, Ms. Hermie Sparks; daughter, Mary Dawn and husband, Ken Anderson; grandchildren: Sierra and fiancé, Jeremy, and Dakota; brother, Tom Buchanan; good friends, Russ and Bruce.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ron Buchanan, his special aunt, Norma, and his best friend, John Adams.
