Sherry was born in Carroll County, TN, on August 11, 1946, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Bobbie Faye (Lasater) Hampton. Educated locally, she graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the Class of 1964, where she was a cheerleader all four years and was very proud of her "Panther" heritage, maintaining school spirit all through adulthood. She was an excellent student and National Honor Society member. Sherry was incredibly active, serving on prom, carnival, and homecoming committees, as well as working on the school paper and playing basketball and softball. She was an "All-American" girl. After high school, she went on to attend Mott Community College where she took many courses in English. Sherry met and married the love of her life, Richard Usealman, on November 27, 1970. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 25, 2009. Sherry worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for St. Joseph Hospital and Genesys Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 2010. Sherry moved to Michigan from Tennessee at the age of four, when her dad accepted a job with General Motors. Shopping for her kids and grandkids was a favorite pastime of her and her mom (our Mawsie), the "Shop till you drop" twins. Then when Mawsie became less mobile it was bingo, the casino, and dining out. She absolutely loved to attend every game, recital, and any other activities of her children and grandchildren, and then spoil the grandchildren with ice cream and other treats on a regular basis. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling on a league at Nightingale Lanes with her beloved husband. Sherry loved to go camping and travel all over the country, as well as boating on large bodies of water. Sherry was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and she loved to dance. She enjoyed keeping herself active and did water aerobics for many years as well as walking the 5k CRIM for many years and just walking and spending time in her pool. Sherry didn’t let her English classes fail her as she was the grammar police and constantly corrected everyone and all of their papers for school. She wrote poetry and wrote many poems for her family on their birthdays and special occasions. Her family was her greatest blessing and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Sherry's memory are her children: Kevin and wife, Dana Usealman, Lance Usealman and his better half, Cheyenne Winchell; grandchildren: Clara, Ralphie, Ashton, Theo, Chase, Violet, Simon; sister-in-law, Linda and husband, Larry Smeby; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; parents: Mawsie and Pawsie; brother, Don Hampton.
