Obituary of Joseph Albert Arthur Vermette
Age 88, of Flint, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at home with his family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Joseph's family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. At 7:00 pm, family friends, and parish will gather for a Vigil Service. On Wednesday morning, Joseph will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Some may know him as “Joe,” while others will remember him as “Al.” Joe was born on November 20, 1933, to Wilfred and Germaine Vermette in Flint, Michigan. He was one of three siblings and lived in Michigan for the majority of his life.
Joe married his wife, Joan “Billie” Vermette, on January 28, 1956, and remained married to her until his death. They were married for 65 years. Joe was an Army Veteran in the Smoke Generation Battalion from 1956-1958, and was stationed in Germany for the duration of his service. Joe was a passionate patriot, hard worker, and family man. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and poker, and he continued bowling until the last weeks of his life. Joe also enjoyed sharing a beer with family or friends. He was an avid Tigers fan, Lions fan. Joe was known for his kindness, quick wit, and love for having a good time with his friends and family.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Wilfred and Germaine; and his brothers: Charles “Chuck” Vermette and Richard “Dick” Vermette.
He leaves behind his wife, Joan; four children: Charmaine (Tim) Sharkey, Albert Vermette, Sabrina (Henry) Stiles, and Melanie (Bradley) Sullivan. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
