Obituary of Daniel Leo Dolan

Age 87, died June 23, 2021, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11110 Saginaw St, Mt Morris, at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Morris. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. On Wednesday morning, Daniel will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Service at 11:00 am. Daniel was born at Hurley Hospital in Flint, the first child of Leo B. Dolan and Madeline M. Purcell. He resided in Birch Run Township, the City of Mt. Morris, Mt. Morris Township, the City of Flint, and the City of Flushing. He graduated from Mt. Morris St. Mary High School and Flint Junior College and earned a BA degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He wrote simple English for The Flint Journal, the City of Flint, General Motors/Delphi, and some favorite nonprofit agencies. He married Margaret J. Messmore in 1955, and they spent 50 years, shy a week, together. A master gardener, Daniel beautified landscapes at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint for many years. He was recognized as “Big Brother of the Year” for work with the Catholic Big Brothers Organization.
Daniel leaves his children: Dr. Matthew (Donna) Dolan and James Dolan; grandchildren: Mark (Rachael) Dolan, Rachel (Gerald) Shaw, Brooke, and Ryan Dolan, and Dominick Blaskiewicz; great-grandson, Elijah Shaw; sisters: Judith Mayhew, and Martha Pierson; sister-in-law, Kathleen Dolan; nieces, nephews, and his betrothed, Kathleen S. Wiens.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret and their infant daughter, Mary Bridget; brother, Charles Dolan; sister, Myrna Seymour; brothers-in-law: Leonard Seymour, Edward Mayhew, and Phil Pierson.
