Mary Burns, age 92, of Flushing, died Monday, March 15, 2021, in Hyde-Park Memory Care of Flushing, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Wednesday evening, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home for a Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm. On Thursday morning, Mary will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Mary was born May 6, 1928, in Flint, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Jennie (Rosetti) Serra. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Flint, MI with the Class of 1946. After high school, she worked at the Genesee County courthouse. Mary Theresa Serra met the love of her life Bernard Paul Burns through her brother Fred Serra, the two dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on May 6, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together their union was blessed with three children. He sadly preceded her in death on October 28, 2013. Mary became a stay-at-home mom after she had her 1st child. Being a mom and a homemaker was her passion in life. She was a member of St Mary Catholic Church for 70 years and resided in Mt Morris for 70 years. Mary’s favorite times were spent with her family, she always made sure no one went home hungry.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Paul (Danita) Burns, Cathy Burns (Rob Hubbard), Nancy Burns; five grandchildren: Tony and wife, Jennifer Burns, Kelli and husband, Rick Benner, Mandy Burns, Tricia Mattingly, and Gabrielle Burns; nine great-grandchildren: Landon, Michael, Naomi, D’ Anthony, Isabeth, Mason, Gage, Johnathon, and Angelise; brother, Joe and wife, Veronica Serra, and sister, Minnie Bussineau.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul; brother, Fred Serra; great-grandson, Aiden, and brother-in-law, Fred Bussineau.
