Catherine was born in Otter Lake, Michigan, on March 16, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Elizabeth (Fargo) Blackmer. Educated at Otter Lake High School, Catherine graduated with the Class of 1955. While in high school, Catherine met a young man, who was serving in the United States Army, named LeRoy Young. The two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on January 22, 1955, in Otter Lake. Sadly he preceded her in death in 2018. Catherine and LeRoy raised four children in Mt. Morris, Michigan. After their youngest child turned seven years old, Catherine and LeRoy decided to travel; they saw the United States, Mexico, and Canada. That journey took them seven wonderful years, teaching and spending time with their children. Catherine enjoyed spending time with family, playing bingo, and taking her grandchildren camping. She also was known for her homemade cakes and candy. Catherine was always involved with her children, from working concession for football games to being the Cub Scout leader for her two sons. To relax, Catherine loved to knit scarves and watch soap operas. She worked for Wal-Mart for 27 years as a sales clerk in the toys department then moved into the pharmacy department before retiring. Catherine loved to get to know people and always had a way to make them smile.
