Age 80, of East Jordan and formerly of Frankenmuth, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan. Because of COVID-19 safety considerations, a private funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s website, stlorenzlutheran.org/media. Burial will take place following the service at St. Lorenz Cemetery. Marvin was born on October 17, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Emma R. (Block) and Wilmar F. Zucker of Frankenmuth. Growing up, he and brother Gary regularly assisted Wilmar and Emma in their duties as caretakers for St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and cemetery. Marvin graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1958. After graduation, he attended Central Michigan University and then attended the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee, after which he received his license to practice mortuary science in Michigan. On October 1, 1966, Marvin married Joyce Wenzel at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. The couple had one son, Stephen. Marvin worked for Cederberg Funeral Home in Saginaw, and in 1970, he became part-owner and manager of Cederberg-Zucker Funeral Home in Frankenmuth. In 1991 he went to work for Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mount Morris. In all, Marvin was a licensed funeral director for more than 55 years, serving the needs of thousands of families in the area during that time. Marvin lived nearly all of his life in Frankenmuth. He was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Marvin was active in Jaycees and the Frankenmuth Civics Events Council. He enjoyed bowling, following Frankenmuth High School athletics, and was a die-hard University of Michigan fan. In his later years, Marvin also enjoyed serving as one of Santa’s helpers for many community functions.

 

Marvin is survived by his wife, Joyce of Harbor Springs; son, Stephen (Erin) Zucker; and granddaughters: Kathryn and Anna Zucker all of Petoskey; brother Gary (Mary) Zucker of St. Louis; nephews: The Rev. Tyge (Denys) Zucker of Red Wing, Minn, and Jason (Heather) Zucker of Seattle, Wash.; and niece Diane (Roger) Daenzer of Vassar.

 

Marvin was preceded in death by; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wenzel and nephew, Neil Neuenfeldt.

 

Marvin’s family wishes to thank the staff at Grandvue Medical Care Facility for the outstanding, compassionate care he received during the past four-plus years.
