Obituary of Charles William Dolan

Age 84 of Clio, formerly of Mt. Morris, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 12, 2020, after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 17, 2020, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate. The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Cremation & Tribute Service in Mt. Morris on Wednesday, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm 7:00 pm. A private Rosary will be prayed with the family on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning, Charlie will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Charlie was born October 4, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Madeleine (Purcell) Dolan. Raised in Mt. Morris, Charlie attended St. Mary Catholic School in Mt. Morris, graduating with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Charlie would continue his education at the University of Detroit and GMI. Charlie transitioned from GMI to AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors, progressing from apprentice, to journeyman, to model maker and into supervision of the experimental model shop, until his retirement with 36 years of service in 1996.
Charlie met Kathy Kuntz through his sister, Myrna. The two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on April 28, 1962, in Flint.
Charlie led a life devoted to his faith, his wife, and his family. A life-long parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlie also volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul.
Charlie enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, voracious reading, off-road motorcycling, traveling, camping, woodworking, and woodcarving. He was a member of the Frankenmuth Woodcarvers Guild, where he handcrafted works of art.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Kathleen; four children: Nicholas Dolan, Susan Gallagher, Daniel and wife, Patricia Dolan, and Robert, and wife Sigrid Dolan; nine grandchildren: Angela Dolan, Stefanie and husband, Michael Lorincz, Eric and wife, Desiree Dolan, Jordan Gallagher, Jessica Gallagher, and fiancé, Alex Herholz, Charly Dolan, Jacob Dolan, Shane Dolan, and Adam Dolan; brother, Dan Dolan; sisters: Judy and husband, Ed Mayhew, and Martha Pierson; sisters-in-law, Jane Lawler; and Frances Kuntz; and several nieces; nephews; and cousins. In addition, Charlie cherished deep fellowship with many special friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Myrna Seymour; sister-in-law, Marge Dolan; brothers-in-law, Leonard Seymour Phil Pierson; Dwight Lawler and Paul Kuntz.
