Gloria was born in Flint on August 23, 1935. She is the daughter of Ms. Frances Parnell. Educated locally, Gloria graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the Class of 1953. While ice skating, Gloria met a young man, Thurlo Smith. The two began to date, fell in love, and were united in marriage in 1954 in Indiana. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 17, 2010. As her children grew up, Gloria went to work as a nurse's aide at Montrose Nursing Home. After her retirement, Gloria and Thurlo relocated to Florida for ten years. Gloria was a member of the Krapohl and Clio Senior Centers and the Clio Eagles #3609. In her free time, Gloria enjoyed dancing, going to garage sales, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. Gloria was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma, and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Gloria’s memory are her children: Janelle and husband, Charles Gray, Thurlo and wife, Lisa Smith, Terry and husband, Tom Adams, Jolynn Elleman, and Tom Smith; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces; nephews and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thurlo; parents, and grandparents.
