I had the pleasure of being with Bernie once a month for over the past decade. I was the lucky one who drove the bus with the R.O.M.E.O's (Retired, Old, Men, Eating Out) to their various lunch locations. This year has been a bust of course, but in a better time Bernie was always there ready for a new adventure with his friends at Brecon Village. He was full of information and willing to share, always warm spirited and a perfect gentleman. Here in this picture he is at the head of the table, Nov 20, 2019. It was one our last outings to Sidetracks in Ypsilanti, these men enjoy a meal away from the Brecon Campus in the company of other really great men. I am going to miss Bernie and his smile, his attitude and his gratitude. RIP my friend, I am sure you are in holding the hand of your dear Ruth and everything is better than ever.

I had the good fortune of being a co worker of Bernie, and I can say he was very well respected in the millwork business, many fellow employees looked up to him for his professionalism and his knowledge of woodworking . He was a man of his word and customers trusted him. He had a warm countenance and a good sense of humor, and always would give help and advice when asked for. I say this to the family, " praising what is lost makes remembrance dear ".

As I look back over the years I realize how much I enjoyed Bernie's friendship. I also realize we had "parallel" lives. Neither of us had siblings so we considered each other as brothers. Both of us graduated from Mt. Morris High, both participated in WWII, married sisters, raised similar families (boy, girl, girl) in that order. We spent a few decades in gainful employment, spent time and travelled together with our wives in both Michigan and Florida after retirement, both loved the Lord, both loved golf, etc. Needless to say I'll miss my brother as will everyone who knew him. His outgoing personality and "everyone is a friend" outlook will be impossible to forget but I'm looking forward to reuniting with Bernie, Ruth and Donna in the not too distant future.
