My sincerest condolences to all of you on Gale's passing. Growing up as the neighbor kid next to the Mannors was really a fun time, what with two boys around my age and a dad (Gale) who always had something interesting going on -- whether it was planting strange vegetables no one ever heard of, like kohlrabi, in his farm-size garden (sweetest beet I ever tasted was one he pulled up for me right out of the ground!), putting up a swimming pool, building a barn, grafting fruit trees, raising rabbits, sinking wells, making tabbouleh, or playing "Oh Hell!" at the kitchen table. He even challenged me and Matt to a foot race down the side yard and back-- barefoot--and won! And by golly, I think he did it with a Goebels in his hand! I know from the way he spoke of you all that he loved his family very much. I'll always remember him as a busy, kind, congenial guy with a soft spot for smoked fish.
