Mr. Daniels was my teacher and coach at Holy Rosary High School. I enjoyed him as a teacher and even more so as a coach. Many of my best memories of high school come from the softball field where Dan, Sue, and Mr. Daniels were our coaches. Every spring, I think of those days and I think of my coaches and teammates with a smile. I remember the District wins and the heartbreaking loss to Waterford in the Regionals. One of my favorite memories of Mr. Daniels was when he would lead us in our cheer each game. When I began coaching, I taught my players that same cheer. So, one more time, for Mr. D. "All set..."

Words cannot describe what this man has meant to me! I am a proud member of Holy Rosary's 1973 undefeated football team and was blessed to have Jack Daniels as my coach. I am positive that He was my coach because Mickey Hamilton told me that I did not play for him!! Our team felt so much love from our coaches that it had a lasting effect on many of us. After graduation a full handful stayed in the sport by coaching and helping our favorite football programs. I returned to Holy Rosary and had the privilege of working directly with Jack for a number of years. There was nothing in Jack's life that was as important to him as his family. I vividly remember Jack bringing his son to our practice in a grocery cart with a cast on his leg!! One year we went to scout Almont and we split a handful of 50/50 tickets, at half time we stopped at the portages jons and Jack heard the PA announce the winning ticket. All of a sudden there was a huge commotion as Jack was screaming out in the hut next door. I think that by the time we returned to Flint, all of our winnings was gone because we stopped for one at every facility that we passed!! God got a good one home today!! Please bless the rest of his family in this difficult time.

This notification sent by my son brought a rush of warm memories and a lot of tears. Truly hurts the heart. I first 'met' Jack from the other side of the line of scrimmage '52-'53 vs St. Matts. Wasn't too 'fond' of Jack back then, but had a great admiration and respect for him. In later years having the good fortune to be on the same coaching staff as J.D. and Mickey Hamilton, my mentors who shaped my own methods of coaching, and it wasn't all about X's & O's. Jack could be a force on the practice field, but never humiliating a kid, correcting with humor, and a practitioner of never letting a kid go home after a tough day at practice feeling bad. Instead a pat on the back or an encouraging word even if you might not mean it at the time. Unvarnished compassion. The kid's loved him, the ultimate endorsement that says it all about the man. I'm guessing a trait learned at the knee of Aunt Henrietta Corcoran who raised Jack., and with whom I worked closely at the Flint Main P.O. Master of the "D" from whom I 'stole' the 4-4 Stack as our basic "D". But with Jack it was far more than that. It was like Family, his and ours. Often said that was a combined JV and Varsity staff, including volunteer assistants, the very best I was ever privileged to be associated with. I owe my own coaching largely to Jack and those guys. I can say without hesitation that J.D.indeed was a genuinely good, moral person. No pretense about Jack. What you saw was what you got! The consummate teacher, gruff teddy bear with a heart as big as he was. To say I am profoundly grateful and privileged to have shared the playing field, the sidelines, the practice field classroom, and his friendship like a brother, would be an understatement. Jack Daniels; Flint sports and coaching legend. A player's and coach's coach. Jack's crowning achievement; his and Maxine's children a reflection of their goodness. Be comforted in celebrating Jack's extraordinarily life well lived that touched so many in a positive way, including yours truly. Maxine & Family; Thank You for sharing Husband and Dad. Al & Michelle LaBrecque "Eternal rest grant unto Jack, O' Lord, and Let Perpetual Light shine upon him. Amen."

What a loss to a great husband, father, friend and coach - who meant so much to so many. I will personally miss his guidance and wisdom on the sidelines. Jack was never afraid to let me know how to run the team and especially the defense. I wish I had a dollar for every time time Jack told me to stunt. I would definitely be a lot richer. Jack was a man's man - who will be missed by all who knew him. God bless Maxine and family at this very tough time. Jim ,Kathy and the Neumann family.

Jack was my principal at Holy Rosary and I loved him dearly. I'll never forget walking into school on Halloween morning, and there stood Jack dressed as a nun. He said, "Just call me sister Mary Elephant." When we were kids, my brother and I tormented him endlessly at Ballenger Park where he was the guy in charge. I'll always remember his deep belly laugh and his incredible kindness to both the staff and the kids. We all loved him. Thank you, Jack. Barb (Skunda-Kratzer) Hostutler

Words cannot describe the love students, athletes and coaches had for Jack Daniels. I heard stories about Coach Daniels before I ever met him. Finally, coaching against him and with him at Powers Catholic, I discovered the wisdom and passion he had. To see all those boys after the 2001 Finals win, rush to hug him, cemented forever, how much influence his positive teaching had on all those he touched. The world will miss Jack Daniels. I thank his family for the time he spent with me and others enriching our lives. May Jack Daniels rest in peace.

Jack will be greatly missed. He was one of those people [ I've only met a few] that was your friend and best buddy ten minutes after you met him. I will never forget the effort that Jack and Maxine would put into making every sporting event their grandchildren were involved in. And though the family was burdened with the worst of tragedies a smile and a kind word was always there.
Rest in Peace Jack.

One the best things about covering sports in the Flint area was being able to talk to you. Whether it was a conversation about players you played with, against, coached or watched. I always felt I knew a little more after our conversations. But the greatest thinh I gained from you wasn't about sports it was about being a Father. Rest well my friend.❤❤❤
