John was born in Budapest, Hungary on October 9, 1942, to Mr. and Mrs. John and Rozalia (Stork) Puppan Sr. When he was 14, John, along with the rest of his family, left Hungary and moved to Rome City, Indiana. Nine months later, the family moved to the greater Flint area and made it their home. A graduate of Flint Central High School, John graduated with the Class of 1961. Heading the call of his country, John joined the United States Navy in 1961, where he served for eight years as an Avionics Electrician. While in the Navy, John gave presentations to other service members on the effects of communism, in many instances to almost 300 people at a time. When he retired from the Navy, John started working as an electrician at AC Spark Plug. In 1972, John went back to visit his home country, and while visiting, he met and began dating Maria Sulitka. Soon thereafter, Maria moved to the United States and on May 12, 1973, they were united in marriage at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Sadly she preceded him in death on December 21, 2008.
John is survived by his children: John Puppan III, and partner, Lorie, Michael, and wife, Joyce Puppan, and Ference Puppan; grandchildren: Cassidy Puppan, Derrick Puppan, Sofie Puppan, and Stella Puppan; brother: James Puppan; sister-in-law: Eva Puppan; and two nieces: Krisztina and Katalin.
